The downloading and viewing of the files from the MonkeyNotes store is a normally simple and bulletproof process. It is rare for problems to occur, but if they do, please refer to the instructions below, and/or email us at support@pinkmonkey.com for assistance. We are here to help.

Please don't drive yourself nuts trying to figure out something simple that we can help you with in a minute. Please email for help.

  • 1) How do I download the booknote after I have made my purchase?

    We're now offering Rich Text Format .RTF and MS Word .DOC downloads of our notes. You can view the RTF format in any word processor and the MS Word DOC format in any word processor that can view the MS Word formatted DOC files. The RTF format is cross-platform (works on any operating system and any word processor).


    1) How do I download the booknote after I have made my purchase?
    For PDF files: After you submit your order, you will be taken to the order confirmation page. To the right of the title(s) you selected, you will see a blue "download now" button. That button is a link that will enable you to save the booknote to your hard drive on your computer or load it in your browser via a PDF plug-in. As listed on each order page, we recommend that you right click on the download button and select "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As..." depending on your browser, to save the file to a location on your hard drive of your choice. That way you will always have the file available on your hard drive, should you need to view or print it later.

    If you are using a "Mac", Click and hold on the "Download Now" link, then choose "Save this Link As..." and specify where you want the file saved.

    Many of the current browsers have a Plug-in for viewing PDF files built into the browser. Unfortunately, if you open the file and view it in your browser, rather than the separate PDF reader program like Adobe Acrobat or the Free Foxit PDF Reader program, there is not a very simple way to save the file for future viewing, unless you are fairly knowledgable about how your computer works or are using Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4.0 and above or Foxit PDF Reader. If you are using Acrobat 4.0 or above, there is a Save File option.

    If you have any problems, you can always go back and download the file again after you have made your original purchase (see the instructions for re-downloads below) or email us at support@pinkmonkey.com and request that we email the file to you (please list your order number and name). If you do email us for help, please make sure that you are not blocking incoming emails (many AOL users have all incoming emails blocked) or you will never get our emails and we will have no way to help you.

    For RTF files: After you submit your order, you will be taken to the order confirmation page. To the right of the title(s) you selected, you will see a RED "download now" button. That button is a link that will enable you to save the booknote to your hard drive on your computer or load it in your browser via a plug-in to your word processor. As listed on each order page, we recommend that you right click on the download button and select "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As..." depending on your browser, to save the file to a location on your hard drive of your choice first. That way you will always have the file available on your hard drive, should you need to view or print it later.

    If you are using a "Mac", Click and hold on the "Download Now" link, then choose "Save this Link As..." and specify where you want the file saved.

    After you have saved the file to a location of your choice on your hard drive, you will need to start your word processor and select the RTF file using the FILE/OPEN Menu commands within the word processor. If you don't see the RTF file listed in the folder where you saved it, please make sure that you have your word processor looking for files with the extension *.rtf. In some cases, your word processor may only be listing the files with file extensions (suffix) native to itself (ex. .doc, .txt, etc.). There should be a selection in the FILE/OPEN selection window to tell it to look for different file types. Please make sure that you select either "All Files *.*" or "Rich Text Format *.RTF", so that you can find and open the RTF file you saved in that folder.

    If you have any problems, you can always go back and download the file again after you have made your original purchase (see the instructions for re-downloads below) or email us at support@pinkmonkey.com and request that we email the file to you (please list your order number and name). If you do email us for help, please make sure that you are not blocking incoming emails (many AOL users have all incoming emails blocked) or you will never get our emails and we will have no way to help you.

    For MS Word DOC files: Refer to the instructions above for RTF files. The process is exactly the same, except that the word processor you use MUST BE Microsoft Word or another word processor which can open and view MS Word DOC files using an import filter. Generally, if you don't have Microsoft Word, purchase the RTF or PDF version instead. Note: If you purchase any version and later decide you would like it in a different format, just email us and request it. We'll email it to you in any format we offer ASAP.


    2) I've downloaded the file to a folder on my hard drive, Now what?
    Locate the file on your hard drive and then launch it. PDF files are normally associated with Adobe Acrobat Reader or whatever PDF viewer program you have installed on your computer and it should launch for you to view. If not, download the Free Adobe Acrobat Reader and install the program or the free Foxit PDF Reader. Then launch the file again using the FILE/OPEN menu selections within the PDF Reader program itself. You should be able to view & print the file now. If you are having problems getting the file to load (you get a blank screen), make sure you open it using the File/Open menu within the PDF Reader program itself. Sometimes, simply double-clicking on the file itself will not open it correctly. If that is the case, launch the PDF Reader program and open the file through the File/Open menu within the PDF Reader programand you should be fine.


    3) I couldn't download the file or my computer locked up before the download completed. How do I return to my download page?
    If you had a problem with your download, you can download it again at any time. Your order confirmation email contains a special link that will take you back to your download page. This link is located near the bottom of your confirmation email. That is why it is critical for you to use a valid working email address during your checkout. When you click on that link, you will be asked to confirm the credit card number you used during the purchase to verify your identity, but you will not be charged again. You will then be taken to the download screen and have the opportunity to re-download the file(s). If you would rather have us email the file(s) to you, please send an email to us at support@pinkmonkey.com and we will send you the file(s) via email ASAP (please list your order number and name). If you do email us for help, please make sure that you are not blocking incoming emails (many AOL users have all incoming emails blocked) or you will never get our emails and we will have no way to help you.

    As an alternative: IF YOU HAVE A YAHOO! ACCOUNT AND YOU ARE CURRENTLY LOGGED IN...Go to Yahoo Store Order Search (This link will open in a new window). Any order that you have placed on the Yahoo! Store system (the hosting service for the MonkeyNotes store) will be listed. Again, you will be asked to verify your credit card number which you used to make the purchase to return to your download page, but you will not be charged again. That is just a requirement of the Yahoo! Store system for security). Using either method, you will then be taken to the download screen again, where you will find the BLUE DOWNLOAD NOW button next to each title you previously purchased on the original order.

    If nothing works, or if you would rather have us email the file(s) to you, please send an email to us at support@pinkmonkey.com and we will send you the file/s you purchased via email ASAP. Please list your name, order number and the file(s) that you were attempting to download in the email. We do have a limited staff, but we'll get back to you as quickly as possible. Most of the time we respond immediately.

    We've tried to make the system as easy as possible to use and the Yahoo! Store setup does make it fairly simple, but novice computer users are occasionally confused by the process. If you ever have any problems and cannot figure it out after your purchase, don't sit there and get frustrated. Please Email Us and let us know. We'll be happy to supply the file/s to you via email ASAP and help you figure out the problem you are having.


    4) I cannot find the file on my hard drive.

    If you used the recommended procedure for downloading (using the right click method, you placed the file somewhere on your hard drive. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing what folder or drive you placed it in. You can use the file search function in your operating system to search for the file name that is listed in your confirmation email. If you can't find it, just use the method listed in the previous question to download it again or send an email to us at support@pinkmonkey.com and we will send you the file(s) via email ASAP. Please list your name, order number and the file/s that you were attempting to download in the email. If you do email us for help, please make sure that you are not blocking incoming emails (many AOL users have all incoming emails blocked) or you will never get our emails and we will have no way to help you. Please don't sit there and get frustrated looking for it. We'll be happy to email it to you and we do respond very quickly normally.

  • Remember where you put the file, so you can find it later when you need it.

    5) I downloaded the file and saved it to my hard drive, but when I try to open the file all I get is a blank white screen.
    On some computers it is necessary to first start the Adobe Acrobat Reader program and then use the FILE/OPEN Menu selections to launch the PDF file. On most computers, depending upon your setup, simply double clicking on the file name will work, but if you get a blank white screen or if you get an error message, start the Adobe Acrobat Reader program first and then use the menu within Acrobat Reader to open the PDF file. We're not sure why this happens and luckily it only happens to a small percentage of our users. It's a problem with your machine. We don't have a fix. Just use the Acrobat Reader menu to open the file and you'll be fine. There should not be any errors in any of the PDF files. Usually, this is the result of using an older version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you are using a version of Adobe Acrobat Reader above Version 4.0, you should not run into this problem. If you use the Foxit PDF Reader program that we recommend, you won't have any issues like that.


    6) Acrobat Reader gives me an error message when I try to open the file.
    If you receive an error message when you try to open the file by double clicking on the file name, or launching it with an Acrobat browser plug-in, that means that there is a file association problem with PDF files on your computer. The solution is to open the PDF file using the File/Open menu within the Acrobat Reader program itself. To do this, start the Acrobat Reader program, then select File/Open from the menu and open the PDF file you wish to view. There are no errors within the PDF files themselves. The problem is in the way your computer tries to open it when you double-click to launch the PDF file.


    7) When I view the PDF file, all I get is computer code giibberish.
    If you open the PDF file and you are only seeing a bunch of random characters/gibberish on your screen, that means that you are probably viewing the file in a word processor or some other program other than a REQUIRED PDF Reader program like Adobe Acrobat Reader program or the Foxit PDF Reader that we recommend. As we mention on the website, PDF files can only be viewed with a PDF Reader program. You cannot view a PDF file properly using a word processor or any other program.

    Sometimes your computer may default to a word processor when it doesn't know how to properly open a file. The remedy is simple. Open the PDF Reader program which you should have installed or had existing on your computer and then open it using the FILE/OPEN Menu selections within the PDF Reader program itself. If you open the PDF file using a PDF Reader program it should work perfectly. If you try to open the file using some other program, you will not be able to view the file.


    8) Printing PDF file problems - The PDF file displays fine on the screen, but prints as weird characters and gibberish.

    This can occur on some older computers and/or computers that do not have enough RAM installed and/or enough available "system resources". When you select the entire booknote to print at one time, you are sending a very sizable print job to your printer all at once. It consumes a lot of your computers resources to get a 20-50 page document to print. This can be quite memory and CPU intensive on your computer. It can effectively choke your computer to the point where it can't function correctly.

    The solution is very simple. Send the print job to the printer in small batches of a few pages at a time to lessen the load. Start with perhaps 5 pages at a time. You can then increase that slightly, if everything appears to work normally at that point. In the print dialog box that pops up when you click on print, there is a section that called "Print Range". You have three options. - All xx pages; Current page; and Pages From: xx To: xx. You need to select the third option and enter pages 1 To: 5. Then send the smaller print job to the printer. If that works, you can go back and do the same thing from page 6 to 10, and so on until completed. You could also allocate more memory to your printer, but that is a bit more complicated. You may also want to reboot your computer to clear the system resources and start fresh. Those steps will normally resolve a printer/printing issue.


    9) While printing the notes, I ran out of ink or my printer jammed. Do I have to print the whole thing over again?

    No, you don't have to re-print the pages that you already printed. All you need to do is tell Acrobat Reader to print the "range" of remaining pages. For example: If you printed pages 1-22 of a 30 page booknote and need to print page 23-30 now, Go into the FILE/PRINT Menu selections of the Acrobat Reader program and tell it to print a "Range" of pages. You would enter 23-30 in the box next to print a range and select that option. Then when you tell it to print, it will ignore the first 22 pages and begin printing right where you left off.

  • Note: Most computers already have a version of the Acrobat Reader program installed. You may not need to download it. So before you make your purchase, please download and try to view the sample MonkeyNotes to validate your setup and confirm whether or not you need to download and install Acrobat Reader or the free Foxit Reader program that we recommend.

  • CLICK HERE to download the newest version of the free Acrobat Reader. Unfortunately, The download is very large (over 20 megs) for the newest versions of Adobe Acrobat reader. The good news is that our PDF files are compatible back to Acrobat Reader version 2.0, which is no longer supported by Adobe. You can download the older version 2.0 of Acrobat Reader HERE The download size is much smaller at 1.4 megs, but it should only be used on Windows machines, not Macs. If you have a slow Internet connection, this may be a better option for you.

    We recommend that you install at least Acrobat Reader version 4.0.5. You can download the English-Windows version Here . This download is 5.5 megs. Version 4.05 works in Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, Win 2000, and Windows XP.

    You can also download Acrobat Reader version 5.05 for Windows Here . This download is 8.7 megs. Version 5.05 works in Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, Win 2000, and Windows XP. Any version of any PDF reader program will work with our PDF files, but the newer versions offer you improved functions at the sacrifice of speed and hard drive space. The choice is yours.
